Sharla Hartman Obituary

Sharla Jan Rockwell Hartman was born the second of seven children on January 14, 1952 in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Robert O. (Bob) and Gusta O. (Gus) Gravley Rockwell. She passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 73.

She attended Duncan schools, and on February 28, 1969, she married the love of her life, Lonnie Lee Hartman. Together, Lonnie and Sharla started their adventure of a lifetime in Duncan and living in 27 different places over 56 plus years together. They traveled to Germany, Texas, the United States Virgin Islands and back to Oklahoma.

One of their many adventures took them to St Croix, U.S.V.I. where they fell in love with the island and the island way of life. Many lifelong friends were made there. They lived over half of their married life in paradise, literally. They drew, planned, built, landscaped, decorated, and lived in their version of the perfect island home. It is now home to The Children's Museum of St. Croix. They made their way back to Oklahoma, where their adventure together started. With rich Native American history and the National Park, Sulphur became their new adventure.

Sharla was a woman of strong beliefs, morals, character and standards that she not only possessed, but expected of everyone. Throughout her life, some of the more enjoyable places she worked was Cordell's Photography Studio in Duncan, Croy's Photography Studio in Meridian, Sears Photography Studio in Wichita Falls, Texas, The Comanche News in Comanche, Oklahoma, Tri-Ad at the Hess Refinery in St Croix, USVI, and GEC, LLC Construction in St Croix and St Thomas, USVI.

She enjoyed feeding and watching birds, bossing Lonnie around, watching OU softball, OU football, OKC Thunder, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and American Idol. She was a great steward of caution and safety and would go above and beyond to educate you on a subject that you would need assistance with. Sharla was passionate about keeping up with the news, researching topics, and voicing her opinions, she felt that every American should.

Sharla is survived by her husband, Lonnie, of their home in Sulphur; daughter, Lonna Presgrove and husband Clay, of Ardmore, OK; son, Eric Hartman and wife Sharra, of Robinson, TX. She was proudly 'Grammy' to Nacona Presgrove of Ardmore, OK, Casen Presgrove and wife Harlie, of Ratliff City, OK, Waylon Hartman, and Ellie Hartman, both of Robinson, TX. Other survivors include sisters: Linda Rockwell and Carl, of Oklahoma City, OK, Patty Rockwell and Tami Rockwell both of Arizona; Keri Divis and Bruce, Foss, OK, and Kristi Howell and Clay of Duncan, OK; brother, Robert O. (Bobby) Rockwell of Ardmore, OK; sister-in-law, Christa Hartman of Rush Springs, OK; and brother-in-law, Kerry Hartman and wife Melinda of Rush Springs, OK.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Bob and Gus Rockwell; maternal grandparents, Allie Mae Quick Cowan, Roy E. Gravley, Sr. and paternal grandparents, Lindsey Milton Rockwell and Ella Clemmer Rockwell Hess; sisters-in-law: Donna King, Jan Thomason, Sharon Willett, Terri McGee; brothers-in-law: Rick Hartman, Phil Hartman; and nephews: Larry Willett, Jr. and Tyler Tollison.

A funeral service is planned for 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 6, at the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Sharla's nephew, Caleb McGee, officiating. Interment will follow in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Casen Presgrove, Waylon Hartman, Sam McGee, Brian Rockwell, Kerry Hartman, and Clay Presgrove.
