Sharon Matthesen Obituary

Sharon Marie McSwain Matthesen, 77, passed away December 30, 2020 at home with her loved ones by her side.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 2 P.M. at Central High Baptist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

Sharon was born October 10, 1943 to H.D. McSwain and Lois Marie Dodson McSwain. Lois passed away when Sharon was nine. Her dad married Leona Schimmel who then filled the motherly role in Sharon’s life. Sharon and her parents move around the Oklahoma/Texas area, living in Elk City and Amarillo, TX. They eventually moved back to Oklahoma City where she graduated from Putnam City High School in 1961. After graduation, Sharon’s family moved to Moore where she met Larry Matthesen; they were married May 26, 1966. In 1967 they welcomed their firstborn, a daughter Stacy, and then added three more kids, sons Russell, Scott and Carl.

Sharon was a homemaker and a very good one. She always made sure no one went home hungry or thirsty after a visit. She loved to knit, read books and work word puzzles. Sharon was a member of Central Baptist Church of Central High and loved her ladies’ Sunday School class. When she became a grandmother “Ma”, she graciously accepted that title and loved spending time with her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, H.D. McSwain and Lois Marie Dodson McSwain and Leona Schimmel McSwain; in-laws, C.A. and Ilene Matthesen; brother, Keith McSwain; and neighbor and loving friend, Grace Taliaferro.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter, Stacy Horning and husband Danny of Mobile, AL; sons, Russell and wife Stacy of Lawton; Scott and wife Jenifer of Wichita Falls; and Carl and wife Traci of Duncan; grandchildren: Tyler Matthesen and wife Jessica; Grant Tomlinson and wife Gina; Jake Tomlinson; Chance Matthesen and fiancée Madeline; Alyssa Matthesen; Kalli Matthesen; Emily Matthesen; Jack Matthesen; Brett Matthesen; Colt Matthesen; Molly Matthesen; great granddaughter, Kinsley Matthesen; brother, Jerry McSwain and wife Barbara; sisters: Judy Robertson and husband Richard; Cindy Pyle and husband Mike; sister-in-law, Pam McSwain; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to Baptist Children’s Home in Madill, OK or online obhc.org.
