Simon Gabriel Nelson started his earthly journey on April 17, 2015, in Duncan. He returned to the arms of Jesus on Friday, October 30, 2020, with his parents, Charles Gabriel and Lindsay Rae (Darst) Nelson, by his side.
Due to the pandemic, Simon was attending “virtual” kindergarten through Emerson Elementary School. He was such a smart boy and was excelling in his studies, especially in Math. Simon enjoyed building. He liked building intricate towers and creating Pokémon characters out of blocks the best, unless his Daddy had a project that allowed him to use a power tool.
Simon loved music. His favorite song was “Sunflower” by Post Malone, but he loved to sing and dance to pretty much anything with a good beat. He had the best ninja/breakdancing moves ever, just ask his Momma. Simon could spend hours with a crayon or sidewalk chalk in his hand, creating imaginative characters and relaying their stories to his family before proudly hanging his creations on the fridge.
Simon enjoyed roughhousing with his Daddy, Momma, and his Bubba, Joshie. He loved to play video games on his Nintendo Switch and loved winning at board games against his parents. He liked to ride his bike and run as fast as he could for as long as he could. Simon could spend hours out deer and dove hunting with his Daddy and Papa. He enjoyed being in nature and really loved the snacks and Root Beer that came along with being with “the boys” in the deer woods.
Simon’s little smile lit up every room that he entered. He was extremely sociable and never met a stranger. He was a bright light to everyone around him and his family takes comfort in knowing that his light is shining brighter now that he is in Heaven with Jesus.
Simon is survived by his parents, Charles and Lindsay Nelson; brother, Joshua Ray Nelson; grandparents: Sam and Linda Darst of Duncan; Charles & Becky Nelson of Choctaw; Lula Easterday of Chickasha; great grandmother, Jewell Darst of Atoka; aunt, Emily Nelson; uncle, Ryan Darst; cousin, Logan Darst; many other aunts, uncles and cousins; and an extended family that loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his great grandparents: Cliff Darst, Clyde and Wanda Pippin, Irene and Clinton Easterday, Henri Traugh, and Robert Nelson.
A funeral service for Simon will be held on Wednesday, November 4, at 2:00P.M. at New Hope Baptist Church West with Pastor Rusty Canoy officiating, assisted by Marlon Nelson. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home/Oakcrest Cremation Center.
Simon’s favorite color was blue. The family asks everyone to wear blue to the service in his honor.
