Terry Russell Obituary
Terry Wayne Russell, 57, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on Monday, August 4, 2025. He was born February 29, 1968, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to Arthur Wayne and Phyllis (Gray) Sutton. Terry was later adopted and raised by Phyllis' new husband, Billy Russell.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 A.M., Thursday, August 7, at First Baptist Church Duncan with Rev. Bryan Pain officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers are: Ken Murphree, Bill Scott, Mitch Crook, Lonnie Davis, Rocky Freeman, Shane Blankenship, Billy Adamson, David Green, Dalton Dismuke, and Jerry Prince.
Terry graduated from Meeker High School in 1986 and attended classes at the University of Oklahoma where he played the tuba in the "Pride of Oklahoma" marching band and developed a lifelong love for Sooner football and softball. He was employed as an electrician for 17 years, worked at Locke Supply for 5-1/2 years, and as an inspector for the City of Duncan for 7-1/2 years.
On May 21, 2004, Terry married Rhetta Mooney who was his constant companion, advocate, and caregiver during the last months of his life. From his first marriage to Ruby Michelle Jones, Terry was blessed with a daughter, MyKenzee, who was his pride and joy. An avid outdoorsman, Terry found peace and joy in hunting, fishing, and camping. He especially loved traveling to Wyoming, where the natural beauty of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks became some of his favorite places to explore and return to over the years. It was on one of these return trips to Grand Teton that Terry recently was able to witness MyKenzee's engagement to fiancé, Dalton Dismuke.
Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis; biological father, Wayne Sutton; and his father-in-law, Wallace Mooney.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Rhetta; daughter, MyKenzee Russell and fiancé Dalton Dismuke; father, Bill Russell; sister, Misty Blankenship and husband Shane and nieces (the blond-haired girls); mother-in-law, Doris Mooney; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene Mooney and wife Jodi, Lysle Mooney and wife Lisa and their families.
