Terry Wylder Obituary

Terry Glen Wylder of Duncan, OK, passed away on September 17, 2018 in Laredo, Texas. He was born on December 9, 1955, in Duncan, Oklahoma to Marion and Jo Wylder.

Family visitation will be held Sunday, September 23, from 2:00-3:30p.m. at Whitt Funeral Home.

Mass will be held at Assumption Catholic Church on Monday, September 24, at 10:00a.m. with Rev. Father Peter Jandaczek officiating. Vocalist will be Rev. Randy Southerland. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

Terry grew up in the country on the northwest edge of Duncan. He enjoyed roaming on the land behind his house. This led to a love of fishing and hunting. He also loved firearms, collecting everything from old antique muzzle loaders to the more modern guns and everything in between.

Terry was a heavy equipment operator who worked for years building roads and working construction sites. He could operate about any piece of heavy equipment that was painted yellow and burned diesel. Later in life he preferred driving trucks because it was much less difficult work. He worked for Lone Star Transportation and could give road directions on how to get to anywhere from Washington state, Maine, south Texas and Florida. He spent weeks at a time living in the condo of his truck and hauling anything from wind farm parts to helicopter parts.

His first love was drag racing. He loved the front-engine open-wheeled cars. Win or lose, he loved staying at the track enjoying the company of other racers he had befriended over the years and hanging out. He also enjoyed any other type of racing and, when not at the track, spent many a Sunday afternoon cheering on his favorite driver. Terry also enjoyed golfing with his parents in Bella Vista, AR, and thought the courses in Oregon were incredibly beautiful.

He will be truly missed by those that knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marion Wylder; brother, Mike Wylder; grandparents, Frank and Irene Wylder and Argie and Cora Holland; and his Uncle Bud Holland.

Terry is survived by his mother, Jo Wylder-Ezell and her husband Ed; sons, Terry Lynn Wylder and Bruce Wylder; grandchildren, Kadie Ellis, Kylan Wylder, Justin Wylder; aunt, Annett and husband Don Ford; aunt, Coleen Best; nephew, Michael Wylder; several cousins; and special friends, Mark and Loretta Suttle.

The family suggests donations to Assumption Catholic Food Bank of Duncan at 711 Hickory Avenue, Duncan, OK 73533, in memory of Terry’s passion for feeding those in need.
