Thelma Green was born September 1, 1924 in Norman, Oklahoma to Lee and Estella Waverland (McFall) Brown. She passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the age of 100 in Duncan.
Viewing will be 8:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 18, at Whitt Funeral Home in Duncan. Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, February 19, at 11:00 A.M. at Locust Grove Baptist Church in Elgin with Rev. Gary Neighbors officiating. Interment will follow at the Fletcher Cemetery under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.
Thelma graduated from Norman High School and received a Bachelor's degree from Oklahoma University. She was first in her class at OU, which allowed her to walk the stage first. She started teaching elementary school in 1957. She was a fantastic piano player and played for many churches for over 57 years. She also taught piano lessons for many years. Thelma enjoyed singing also. She had been a member of the Sterling First Baptist Church. She was married to Rheuben Green.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Estella Brown; husband, Rheuben Green; daughter, Birdie Annette Henager; grandson-in-law, Robert Fortney; brothers: Earl Brown and Walter Brown; and sisters: Kay McElhaney and Arlene Perrin.
Thelma is survived by her son: Rheuben Green Jr. and wife Myong of Fletcher; five grandchildren: Rheuben Green III and wife Caitlin, Eva Fortney, Thomas Green, Alan Henager, Jennifer; 30 great grandchildren; and many great-great grandchildren.
