Thomas Stewart Obituary

Tom Stewart, aka Tommy, Tom, Papaw or PowPow, was loved by his family and will be greatly missed. He passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021, with his family at his side in Duncan He was born May 12, 1948 in Marlow, Oklahoma to John Thomas and Dollie Demple (Vancil) Stewart.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, September 9, from 5:30-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, September 10, at 2:00 P.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randy Southerland and Bro. Lance Smith officiating. Live streaming of the service will be available at www.whittfh.com. Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Archer, Ron Pruitt, Cody Rather, Lonny Foster, Brian Foster, and Kirby Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Haggard, Brandon Haggard and Jayme Burton. Interment will follow in the Marlow Cemetery.

Tommy graduated from Marlow High School in 1967. On July 3, 1967 he married the love of his life, Connie Gail Peddycoart. They had two children - Sherrie and Michael. Also in 1967 Tommy joined the US Air Force and served as a propeller mechanic. He was employed as a licensed plumber and owned his own business.

He coached youth basketball and soccer which he helped get started in Duncan. He also coached women's softball and played on men's and co-ed softball teams. He enjoyed camping, skiing fishing, hunting and golfing. He liked old knives, old cars, and guns. As a member of the Marlow Gunfighters' Association, Tommy loved doing Old West reenactment shows playing the villain as Ringo or Doc Holliday. He performed for and with some big name people. He loves horses and anything western. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and especially loved spending time with them and his friends.

At the age of 33 Tommy gave his life to Jesus at Highland Park Baptist Church where he later became an ordained deacon. He helped teach youth Bible study at both Highland and at Chisholm Trail Cowboy Church, a church he helped establish.

Tommy leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Connie; children: Sherrie and Scott Johnson, Michael and Michele Stewart; grandchildren: Julie and Taylor Hendrix, Heather and Jordan Davis, Kayla and Atom Bowden, Jordan Stewart, and Caden Stewart; great grandchildren: Derek Johnson, Blayden Hendrix, Trenton Hendrix, and baby Jesse Wayne Davis who is on the way; sisters, Johnnie and Frank Leptinski; Debbie Benton; numerous nieces and nephews; and brother of the heart, Garry and wife Donna Haggard.

He was preceded by his parents and sisters, Loretta Stewart and Sue Archer.
