Obituary

Van Stratton Welch II, of Duncan, Oklahoma, was born September 1, 1944, in Artesia, New Mexico to James and Lida Rose "Lilo" (Talmadge) Welch. He passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, with his wife at his side. He was 78.

After graduating from New Mexico Military Institute, Van received his Bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University. He also served in the US Army Reserves. On April 4, 1970 he married Billie "Carol" Woolf in Duncan. Their family was complete with their children, Robin and Van III.

Van was a Registered Petroleum Engineer and had worked with numerous companies all over the world. He enjoyed playing darts, duplicate bridge, and golf. He was a good friend and was loved and admired by many. He enjoyed attending New Hope Baptist Church West. Spending time with his grandchildren was very important to him and he loved his entire family immensely.

Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marian Jo Pendergrass, Van is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol; children: Robin and husband Kent Sullivan, Van Stratton Welch III; and four grandchildren: Patrick Sullivan, Caroline Sullivan, Vanessa Welch, Alexis Welch; brother, Gary Welch and wife Bonnie; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
