Vera Jean Dove

Vera Jean Dove was born September 27, 1927 in Ratliff City, Oklahoma to George and Mary Elizabeth (Morgan) Gillaspy. She passed away at the age of 95 in Duncan on Friday, May 5, 2023, with her daughter at her side.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 9, between 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home Services are planned for Wednesday, May 10, at 11:00 A.M. in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. A live stream of her service will be available on her obituary at www.whittfh.com. Interment will follow in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.

Vera was employed as a receptionist for Dr. Howell, Dr. LaQuey and finished her working career as the Plato Manor Nursing Home receptionist. She loved to sew and made her own clothes as well as her children's. She enjoyed crocheting and oil painting. She started embroidering in her later years and wanted to embroider everything.

She married C.B. Dove on August 28, 1946. Their family was completed with the births of their children - Pamela and Johnny. After his death on December 30, 1989, Vera married Billy Joe Bloodworth. They enjoyed traveling in their RV attended the local bluegrass festival twice a year, staying for two weeks at a time in their RV.

Vera is survived by her daughter, Pamela Moore and Josef Mizell; granddaughter, Brandi Dove; and two great grandsons: Bradin and Rilan. She is also survived by numerous nieces and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: C.B. Dove and Billy Joe Bloodworth; son, Johnny Ray Dove; granddaughter, Jahnna Dove; brothers: Vernon Gillaspy, Cecil Gillaspy; and sisters: Lula Mae Gillaspy, Sharron Beth Smith, and an infant sister.
