Virginia Sudberry Obituary
Virginia Mae Sudberry, aged 92, transitioned to her heavenly home on February 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 7, 1932, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Emory and Ethelda Green.
Virginia attended Putnam City Consolidated school until 7th grade when the family moved to Duncan. She then attended and graduated from Duncan High School. On February 17, 1951, she married the love of her life, Richard Edward Sudberry, in Duncan, Oklahoma. Richard and Virginia raised three wonderful children. They had been married for 46 years at the time of his passing in 1997.
Virginia spent most of her life in Duncan, with brief periods in Wyoming and Oklahoma City. She cherished the small-town atmosphere and had many friends. She was an active member of Gatlin Baptist Church and later First Baptist Church - Duncan.
Virginia may be remembered for "helping" Richard at Sudberry's Paint or greeting customers at the Marlow Veterinary Clinic. Virginia enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. She loved sitting outside on her porch, drinking coffee and looking out at her beautiful flower garden. She also enjoyed watching OU football. But more than anything she loved her children and grandchildren. Virginia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her life was characterized by her selfless love for those around her.
In 2018, she relocated to Norman to be closer to her daughter. She attended Northeast Baptist Church in Norman, Ok and looked forward to her Sunday School class every Sunday.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Eva Lou Tillerson, and her daughter-in-law, Lisa Sudberry.
She is survived by her sons, Douglas Alan Sudberry and wife Marie Fitzgerald Sudberry, Colleyville, TX; Mark Edward Sudberry and wife Donna Sudberry, Trophy Club, TX; and her daughter Staci Sudberry Smith and husband Bret Smith of Norman, OK. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jordan Lee Sudberry and his wife Camille Sudberry of Grapevine, TX; Lauren Elizabeth Sudberry of Mansfield, TX; Nathan Terrell Sudberry of Roanoke, TX; Ashlyn Nicole Sudberry of Trophy Club, TX; James Edward Sherriden 'Jes' Smith of Norman, OK, and one great-grandchild, Charlotte Ann Sudberry of Grapevine, TX. She leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The service will be on Friday, February 7th at 2pm at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Duncan, OK, under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.
