Wanda "Sue" Watson Obituary

Wanda "Sue" Watson was born on August 18, 1938, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to Helen Victoria and Raymond P. "Jack" Goldsmith. She finished her earthly journey on Saturday, February 22, 2025, with her family by her side. She was 86.

A viewing will be held on Friday, February 28, from 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 1, at 10:30 A.M. at Whitt Funeral Home, with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. A graveside service will follow at Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

Sue was a 1956 graduate of Duncan High School. On January 4, 1957, she married Jimmie Lee Watson, a marriage that lasted 63 years. Together, they raised two sons, Kim and Chris.

She was employed in the accounts payable department of Halliburton for 35 years. She loved raising her children and doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed attending Oklahoma Sooners sporting events, working on puzzles, and collecting Beanie Babies. However, her greatest love (other than her husband and family) was Elvis Presley. As her grandchildren would attest, Sue was a ruthless player of the board game Sorry! She was an outstanding cook, particularly known for her cornbread sticks. Sadly, she would admit that she was never able to duplicate her mother's scratch biscuits.

Sue was a longtime member of Freewill Baptist Church in Duncan and, most recently, faithfully attended New Hope Baptist Church, also in Duncan.

She is survived by her children: Kim and his wife, Gaye Watson, of Duncan; Chris and his wife, Kelli Watson, of Houston. Her grandchildren: Courtney and her husband, Matthew VanHorn, of Tulsa; Corey and his wife, Chelsea Watson, of Edmond; Cooper Watson of Austin; Connor Watson of Austin; Gray Watson of New York City; and Tanner Watson of Houston. Her great-grandchildren: Lauren VanHorn, Samantha VanHorn, Dagan Watson, Tripp Watson, Gage Watson, and Stark Watson. She is also survived by her brother, Jackie Goldsmith, of Austin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Watson; her parents, Jack and Helen Goldsmith; and her grandson, Chase Watson.

Memorial contributions can be made to New Hope Baptist Church West.
