Willie B. Turner, age 87 of Duncan, Oklahoma, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Willie began his journey on January 23, 1934 in Iola, Texas. He was the oldest 10 siblings.
Willie was a longtime resident of Duncan. He proudly served in the US Army and returned to civilian work taking several positions at Halliburton before settling into his role as a Tool Inspector which he held until his retirement in 1986.
If you knew anything about Willie, you knew he was always moving and staying busy, as well as helping people. While working for Halliburton, he enjoyed taking on side jobs working as a bartender from time to time. Prior to his life-changing stroke in March 2019, he volunteered with the Eastside Senior Citizens Center and worked tirelessly as a member of Stone Chapel AME Church, Duncan, Oklahoma, where he had been a faithful and active member for more than 40 years and was Sunday School Superintendent and teacher for more than 20 years.
Willie leaves his loving memory to be cherished by 3 sons: Johnny R. Pearson of Florida, Derric Turner of Oklahoma City, Tyler Garrick of Dallas, Texas; 2 daughters: Laquita Newberry of Arkansas, Cormie're Bishop of Choctaw, Oklahoma; 4 sisters: Annie Newman and Josie Gill of Duncan, Geraldine of California, Shirley Johnson of Arlington, Texas; 2 brothers, Edward E. Turner of Duncan, James E. Turner of California; as well as several grandchildren. Willie also had a wealth of nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family members and friends.
His mother, 1 son, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and 3 nephews preceded him in death.
Services are scheduled for Monday, October 18, at 10:00 A.M. at Stone Chapel Methodist Church in Duncan. Interment will follow at Henderson-Harris Cemetery under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.
