Thursday, October 8, 2020 the Lord called a new angel home. Lifelong resident of the Duncan area Wynona DeLoris Mather Bess went to her eternal home in Duncan. Services will be at 10 AM Saturday at Whitt Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating; burial will follow in Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bess was born March 2, 1927, the only child to Leon G. Mather and May (Thompson) Mather on their land east of Duncan and this is the same land where she raised her family. Wynona attended school at Union Hill, Bray and graduated from Duncan in 1945. She was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. On August 10, 1947 she married J.W. “Bill” Bess in Van Buren, Arkansas. She enjoyed oil painting, going to flea markets and collecting antiques. She also enjoyed playing canasta and dominoes. She and Bill loved going places together. She loved the Christmas season and hosted all of her family at her home that she enjoyed. Family always came first and she enjoyed keeping her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her parents, Leon and May Mather; her loving husband of 67 years, Bill Bess; grandson, Chris Johnson; and son-in-law, Joe W. Johnson.
